KATIE'S BIO
Katie Berry Feucht has been painting for more than 75 years, exploring many styles, including formal portrait painting, abstract mystical oils, watercolor landscapes and oriental brushwork.
Her paintings express her joy and wonder of being alive. She sees painting as a kind of meditation and seeks to express her spiritual and mystical feelings through her work. She has practiced Zen Buddhism, Sufism and other spiritual paths, and she has maintained a discipline of daily, silent meditation for more than 40 years.Katie’s art career has included years of work in commercial art, illustration and graphic design. Her commissions to create designs and decorations painted on a wide variety of furniture pieces led to a collection of Folk Art paintings done on old wooden boards. These were published and sold all over the country as framed prints in country style gift and furniture stores, catalogs and museums.
After moving to Southbury, Connecticut in 2012, Katie was inspired by the many barns dotting the New England landscape and it became important to her to paint them. She recognizes the evocative power of these fast disappearing structures and wants to document their rural character and charm.
Also for the last few years, Katie has been drawn to oriental brush painting and calligraphy. She belongs to, and exhibits with the Oriental Brush Artists Guild of Westchester and the Sumi-e Society of America. She has been awarded many prizes in Sumi-e Society’s national juried exhibitions.
Katie graduated from the Washington University School of Fine Arts in St. Louis, Missouri in 1954 –BFA. She has studied with masters of Chinese Brush painting and Japanese Calligraphy.
